The Center for Civil and Human Rights (CCHR) in Atlanta seeks original artwork for Learn Promote Defend, an exhibition offered in conjunction with 60 Years of Progress…10 Days of Recognition.  The mission of Learn Promote Defend is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) through visual arts.  The 10 days of programs during 60 Years of Progress…10 Days of Recognition will explore the world's progress since the UDHR was adopted 60 years ago and project hopes and vision for the future.

LEARN PROMOTE DEFEND is a unique opportunity for visual artists to participate in 60 Years of Progress…10 Days of Recognition.

CALL TO ARTISTS DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 26, 2008
Works will be selected by an esteemed jury including Sylvie Fortin, Executive Director/Editor, Art Papers; Christopher Hauck, Atlanta based painter, installation and multi-media artist; Jodi Hauptman, Curator of Drawings, Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), and Louise E. Shaw, Curator, Global Health Odyssey Museum, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Selected artists’ works will be part of an exhibition and silent auction to be held on December 10, 2008 at Mason Murer Fine Art in Atlanta, GA.  In addition, six (6) accepted artists will be awarded the opportunity to participate in a billboard public art project in coordination with CCHR planned for the Atlanta Metropolitan area to begin in 2009.

ELIGIBILITY / REQUIREMENTS:
This Competition is open to all professional artists 18 years of age or older (as of January 1, 2008) from all geographic locations where this Competition is not prohibited or restricted by law.  Employees, regents, members of advisory boards of CCHR and Mason Murer Fine Art and their immediate families (children, siblings and spouses), competition sponsors, employees or immediate families of the judges and their respective agents are not eligible.

Interested artists should interpret one or more articles of the UDHR (the preamble and thirty articles may be read at www.unhchr.ch/udhr/lang/eng) and provide a Resume and Artist’s statement.

Entries will be accepted in all two-dimensional visual arts media, including, but not restricted to: painting, drawing, watercolor, weaving, photography, prints, video, film and digital animation.  The work entered may be traditional, representational or more experimental, but it must be based on one or more of the articles of the UDHR.

Each artist may enter up to three pieces.  All entries must have been conceived and created by the artists submitting the work.
