Literally 75 people, all with Phillips MP3 players in their hands, walking down Auburn. That was the scene (as you can see) the week before the Tornado hit. We launched the podcast by having various folks connected with Auburn Avenue's history and present join for a walk down Auburn and then a panel discussion.

We had (from left to righ) Doug Shipman (me) John Calhoun III, son of great community organizer and voter registration leader John Calhoun Jr., Alexis Scott, Publisher of the Atlanta Daily World, Jesse Hill, Jr., businessman, philanthropist and Civil Rights leader, and City Council President Lisa Borders, granddaughter of Rev. William Holmes Borders who pastored Wheat Street Baptist Church, and Tiffany Powell, CCHR Sr. Program Manager. They talked about history, legacy and the importance of supporting business and civic activites on Auburn Ave.

We had a great turnout including Georgia State History students and many business owners from the Auburn Avenue district. The tasty lunch was provided by Sweet Auburn Bread Company-- best baked goods in Atlanta!
We received great coverage on NPR and the AJC.. check out the AJC article here...
So-- download the tour, listen to it online, use your cellphone to get the tour-- just take in the weather and take in a little history!!
