Rev. James Orange has passed.  See article

I had the pleasure a few months ago of sitting for hours with Rev. Orange and Dr. Joseph Lowery to discuss the connection between the Civil Rights Movement and Human Rights.  We talked about their involvement in the struggle against apartheid in the 1980s.  They talked about struggles to fight poverty in the United States including Rev. Orange's labor organizing.  Rev. Orange also talked of his frequent trips to South Africa to help with education, healthcare (including fighting HIV/AIDS) and economic development.

Rev. Orange was in his very early 20s when Selma happened in 1965.  He was the organizer's organizer, an Alabama native who was comfortable with anyone.  He could organize a crowd to gather and lived by the nonviolent ethic so important to the movement.  Nonviolence practiced by such a tall and strong man is even more impressive-- he could have exacted physical revenge, but his faith, discipline and determination allowed him to hold himself and help others achieve a higher standard.

The world is a little worse off today with his passing, but immeasurably better given his life and work.
