Last week we partnered with HBO and Amnesty International’s Southern Regional Division to present the Atlanta premier of a new HBO Documentary called SERGIO.  Nearly 300 people came to The Carter Center for the film and were treated to a panel discussion among some of the stars moderated by journalist Angela Robinson.

SERGIO tells the story of Sergio Viera de Mello, a UN diplomat who was awarded the United Nations Prize for Human Rights after he and members of his delegation were killed in a 2003 bombing in Iraq.  Using biographical information about the man placed in the context of the chaos and violence of war, HBO has achieved a piece of art that honors a fallen human rights advocate while posing vital questions to those of us who are still here working on the issues.

The film will premier for home viewers on Thursday, May 6 at 8pm on HBO.  If you have HBO or know someone who does, please make arrangements to see it. It is time well spent.  I invite you to take a moment after you see the film to post your comments and reactions here so we can all learn from them.
